Michigan woman fights medical marijuana custody decision

A woman who lost custody of her daughter two years after being named a medical marijuana caregiver in Michigan says she will fight for her parental rights. She joined a number of families and medical marijuana advocates at a rally outside of a Michigan Department of Human Services building, seeking answers as to why the state decided to revoke child custody from state-licensed caregivers.

Will your children suffer if you cohabit with a partner?

Divorce is difficult on all parties involved, but especially on children. Kids are usually very confused, angry and hurt. Their emotions are raging and they can often feel as though they may have caused the divorce. Once the divorce is over, these emotions don't simply go away. You, as a divorced parent, may find it a little easier to move on. At some point, you will likely want to start dating again. What happens, though, when the relationship becomes a bit more serious? If you are considering cohabitation with your partner and you have children, here are some things to consider.

When a long marriage ends in a divorce

According to data from the Michigan Department of Community Health, Michigan saw over 34,000 divorces in 2005, with a total divorce rate of 6.8 percent. A sizable portion of these divorces doubtlessly represented couples who had been married for relatively short periods of time, reflecting commonly held notions that younger marriages are weaker, and thus, more prone to dissolution. However, experts say that divorce is an increasingly common occurrence among couples that have been married for many years or even decades.

Michigan man accused of abducting children in midst of divorce

A 50-year-old Michigan man who allegedly fled with his three children has been detained after police officers discovered them at the end of a 12-hour search. The man currently faces domestic violence charges for forcing his wife out of their car and allegedly abducting the couple's children. The man reportedly hid in northern Michigan near the Sleeping Bear Dunes. Police say the children had not eaten or drunk water for nearly two days when they were discovered.
