Although a couple may present themselves to the public as being happy partners and parents, no one knows exactly what is going on behind the scenes. Power couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have been together for nearly 12 years and seemed to be going strong. However, reports of Angelina filing for divorce from Brad have many people talking.
The 41-year-old actress cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for terminating the marriage. In addition to making numerous hit films, the couple is known for providing humanitarian aid to countries in need, as well as adopting several children from international foster homes. The couple has six children total, the oldest three are adopted and the youngest three are biological. In the divorce papers, Angelina is alleged asking for sole physical custody of the children. While she agrees that Brad should have visitation rights, Angelina wants to have the children in her physical custody most of the time.
When it comes to making legal decisions that affect the children, such as those involving education, religion and healthcare, Angelina is asking for joint legal custody. This means that both parents have a say when it comes to making these types of decisions. Both parents agree that their main concern is ensuring that their children are both happy and healthy.
People who choose to file for divorce must keep the needs of their children in mind. While you may be in the process of making important decisions, you may want to consult a family attorney in order to find answers to some of your questions.
